How to Choose a Wedding Photographer in South Florida

Start with the moments, not the gear

Before you compare packages, write down the three or four moments you'd be crushed to miss. Maybe it's your dad's face during the first dance, your friends losing it on the dance floor, or the quiet minute before the ceremony. A good photographer builds the day around those moments instead of a generic shot list.

When you look at portfolios, look for full stories, not just highlight shots. Real candid laughter, guests who look relaxed, and dance floor energy tell you far more than one perfect posed portrait.

Make sure you actually click with them

Your photographer is with you for hours, sometimes from getting ready until the last song. If you feel awkward around them, it shows in the photos. I keep things relaxed and fun on purpose, because real moments only happen when people feel comfortable.

Ask for a quick call or a text conversation first. You'll know pretty fast if the vibe is right.

Questions to ask before you book

• Who will actually be shooting? With me, you talk to and work with the same person from the first text to the final file.
• How long until we get our photos? Ask about normal turnaround and whether rush delivery is available.
• What does the deposit cover? I ask for a 50% non-refundable deposit to hold your date, and the rest is due on the day. You can read the details on my policies page.
• Do you shoot video too? Short recap reels are a great way to relive the energy of the night.

South Florida details to plan for

Our weather and light are a big part of the look. Outdoor ceremonies in the middle of the day mean harsh sun, so talk with your photographer about timing portraits closer to golden hour. Have a backup plan for rain, and give yourselves a few extra minutes between locations for traffic.

If you're getting ready and celebrating in different spots across Broward or Miami-Dade, share the addresses early so the coverage plan is realistic.

Photo and video, or just photo?

Photos give you the details and the portraits. Video gives you the sound of the toasts and the energy of the room. If you can only choose one, pick the one you'll actually go back to. If you want both, ask about a short reel alongside your photos, like my single reels.

A simple timeline helps your photos

Share your timeline with your photographer a few weeks out. Build in a little buffer for portraits and family photos, because those always take longer than you think. Assign one family member or friend to help gather people for group shots so you're not stuck doing it yourselves.

Let your photographer know about anything special planned, like a surprise dance, a cultural tradition or a grand exit. Those moments go by fast, and being in the right spot is half the job.
